Mowing
Mowing is the frequent operation carried out on lawns. infrequent mowing will lead to undesirable grasses, weeds and moss. To encourage thick carpet like grass on golf courses, greens can be cut everday during the growing season.
A good fertilizer program is essential to producing a healthy lawn in which weeds and moss cannot easily invade. The fertilizer program we use to feed your lawn will, in the long term affect not only its color and appearance, but also its tolerance to wear, its disease resistance, its density and its ability to grow effectively.
A verticutter, or dethatcher, makes vertical cuts through the bottom of the grass blades to cut and remove thatch buildup. Thatch is a layer of dead grasses, debris and roots at the base of the grass blades. Over time, this layer blocks fertilizer, water and air from the roots, this can lead to lawn diseases, moss and weeds.
In a lawn, weeds may be tolerated in small amounts but, eventually, due to their fierce competition for light, water and nutrients they must be either destroyed or removed.
To achieve a truly dense and uniform lawn, surface weeds will need controlling periodically. The best defense against weed growth will be a dense lawn surface that prevents the weed seeds from obtaining light, thereby preventing germination.
